Otto Nückel(1888 Köln - 1956 Köln). Matrosen in Unterhaltung. 1920 Watercolour and pencil. Signed and dated lower right. With title and inscription (4)'on the backing. On light cardboard, firmly mounted on backing. 24,5 x 31,8 cm (9,6 x 12,5 in), the full sheet. With the artist's studio stamp on the reverse of the backing Nückel did a lot of work as an illustrator, notably for the satirical magazine Simplicissimus. Unsurprisingly, therefore, narrative elements feature in our picture. Boatmen are deep in conversation against the backdrop of the harbour of Lindau on Lake Constance. Here, too, the action field is wide enough to capture the whole scene that is depicted as taking place. [HL] Good overall impression. Firmly mounted on light cardboard.
