Description

Otto Möller (1883 Schmiedefeld/Thüringen - 1964 Berlin). Schwärmer im Mondschein. 1910 Oil on canvas . Signed lower right. Dated '1910 - 1/7' and titled on the reverse.85 x 70,2 cm (33,4 x 27,6 in). Provenienz: Collection Peter Hopf, Berlin.Private collection South Germany. Otto Möller began studying painting at the Berlin Art Academy in 1904 and became a pupil of Lovis Corinth's in 1907. Towards the end of the first world war, Möller became a member of the 'November Group", an association of radical artists actively committed to avant-garde art. Until 1932 Möller showed work at all 'November Group" shows. In the early 1920s Möller became a professor at the Berlin Hochschule für Kunsterziehung, retaining the post until 1940. Möller's development as an artist encompassed phases of Impressionism and Expressionism with a digression into Cubism between 1919 and 1924 and ended with a realistic style notable for strong overtones of New Objectivity. [KR]In good condition, colours still fresh. Newly mounted. Barely noticeable traces of rubbing due to the framing.
