Description

Tempera on wood, signed on the lower right "Oskar Martin-Amorbach". In original, partially silvered wood frame (slightly chipped), the back with the exhibition label "Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung 1940 im Haus der Deutschen Kunst zu München". Picture dimensions 155 x 118 cm, framed dimensions 177.5 x 140 cm.
Oskar Martin-Amorbach, noted German painter. Studied at the Royal School of Arts and Crafts in Munich. Pupil of Carl Johann Becker-Gundahl and Franz von Stuck. After completing his studies he became a member of the artists' association "Die Welle". Between 1937 and 1942 he displayed ten oil paintings at the GDK, Hitler bought his "Erntegang" for 12.000 RM in 1938, he received the title of professor in 1939, was drafted and worked as a war painter between 1939-1940.
Provenance: Große Deutsche Kunstausstellung 1940 in the Haus der Deutschen Kunst, Munich, exhibition catalogue 1940, fig. 33, item "752", "hall no. 29".
