A pair of enamel miniatures of Laurent Corbet and his wife (née Cordebar, 1727-1798); he, in fur-bordered red velvet coat with gold frogging, lace cravat, powdered wig en queue; and she, in fur-bordered orange surcoat, lace-bordered orange dress, black ribbon choker, lace cap with orange ribbon in her upswept powdered hair
he, signed and dated on the counter-enamel 'Laurent Corbet peint par olivier Lambert de Bourner Le 28 fevrier 1774.'

Artist or Maker

Notes

Very few enamels by this artist are recorded; one, depicting Mr Le Moyne, commissaire général de la marine, is dated 1773; an enamel of Mr Diamy is signed and dated 1776; an enamel of a lady, signed and dated 1782, was sold Christie's, Geneva, 28 April 1976, lot 165, and is illustrated in J. Nimmergut/A.-M. Wager, Miniaturen, Dosen, Munich, 1982, p. 227, no. 280 (erroneously as by Jean-Baptiste Ponce Lambert).
