Description

Olive F Openshaw act 1942-1953- Studies for design motifs; pencil, gouache and collage, 34x21cm: together with a folio of drawings and prints by the same and or associated hand(s), to include life studies, designs for illustration, etc., (a lot), (unframed). Note: Olive Openshaw produced original book illustrations for Enid Blyton, most notably, the Mary Mouse series publ by the Brockhampton Press during the 1940's. An accomplished printmaker, her earlier wood engravings are fine examples of the golden age between the wars. Openshaw's work also retained the expressiveness and attention to detail evocative o the period (Whipsnade by Green Line, c.1930), linocut, London Transport Museum. She is listed in The Dictionary of British Book Illustrators The Twentieth Century by Brigid Peppin & Lucy Micklethwait
