Description

Oil Painting: William Linton R.B.A. (1791-1876) "Roefield House with Low Moor Mill on the River Ribble with Clitheroe Castle and Pendle Hill in the Distance" Inscribed with the artist's name and the title on a plaque attached to the original frame, oil on canvas, 66cm by 91cm Born in Liverpool, he painted landscapes in the Lake District and copied pictures by Richard Wilson. He helped found the Society of British Artists in 1824 and exhibited 1817-1871. He also exhibited at the Royal Academy, British Institute and Suffolk Street. Roefield House and Low Moor Mill were the properties of Mr Garnet who moved to Waddow Hall, which is now the home of the Girl Guides Association. See illustration
