Oil Painting: William Brooker (1918-1983) "The Pink Chair" Signed "Brooker" and dated "53" (1953), inscribed on an exhibition label verso with the title of the work, the date and the number "3117", oil on canvas, 46cm by 61cm Provenance: Arthur Tooth & Sons Ltd, 31 Bruton Street, London Born in Croydon, studied at the Croydon School of Art 1936-1939, the Chelsea School of Art 1947-1949 and Goldsmith's College 1948-49. He taught at Bath Academy of Art, living with Brian Wynter, then Terry Frost. In 1953 became Head of Painting at Willesden School of Art, 1958 Senior Lecturer in Painting at Harrow School of Art and was at Ealing School of Art from 1960. He exhibited from the early 1950's with the London Group. See illustration
