Item Overview

Description

OHIO RIVER LANDSCAPE BY DUBANIEWICZ. Pastel on paper, signed lower right. A colorful view of the packet Kate Adams on the Ohio River. Matted and framed, 22 3/4"h. 29 3/4"w. Peter Paul Dubaniewicz (b. 1913) trained at the Cleveland Institute of Art and taught in Boston, Cleveland, and Oberlin. There were three packets named Kate Adams, and the boat represented here is likely the last of the three. It was built in 1899 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and spent most of her life on the Mississippi, though she spent 1925-6 on the Ohio. In 1926, she went to Memphis and was renamed La Belle Riviere and used in the film adaptation of Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, after which she was restored. Unfortunately, in early 1927, the Kate Adams was destroyed by fire.
