Notes

Goun started his artistic career in 1890 under Kishi Chikudô (1826-97, see lot 262) and in 1899, after the death of Chikudô, Goun became a pupil of Takeuchi Seihô (1864-1942). Goun is well known for his depictions of animals. At the age of sixteen he already received an honourable mention at the Nihon Bijutsu Kyôkai exhibition and at the first Bunten in 1907, Goun won the Third Price with his painting of a polar bear. Additionally he acted as juror of Teiten, taught at various art schools in Kyoto and had his own teaching atelier.
