NINE THAI-MARKET 'FLORAL' BENCHARONG VESSELS

19th century

Comprising seven graduated deep bowl-form jars and covers,
toh, each painted in polychrome enamels with a variety of scrolling or paneled floral decoration, four with vertically arranged
lai karn tor dok flowers associated with the Himaphan forest and two with bands of exotic cotton leaf pattern
lai bai phai thet below the rim, all seven on colored grounds of either pink, yellow, white, green, or a combination thereof, all with domed covers, some with stepped knops, others with discs; a bowl and footed cover, the bowl with everted rim and painted with a stylized repeating floral pattern on a red ground; and a smaller bowl with a similar design on a blue ground. deep bowls and covers: 9 1/4in (23.5cm) to 4 7/8in (12.4cm) high overall
bowl and cover: 5 3/4in (14.6cm) diam
small bowl: 4 3/4in (12.1cm) diam


Condition Report

Deep bowls and covers: Six bowls with cracks, three covers with hair cracks, three with small star cracks, and one repaired. Large rim chips to the largest cover. One finial with metal replacement, others with losses. One bowl and cover with copper rims. Overall wear to surfaces of most.


Bowl and cover: Cracks to bowl and cover. Small rim chips and wear.


Small Bowl: Rim chip (1.6cm) and associated crack. Minute rim nibbles and some wear.
