Edme Bouchardon, a standing putto holding a scythe, study for the monumental Fontaine des Quatres-Saisons, on the Rue de Grenelle, Paris. The fountain, unveiled in 1745, was designed by Bouchardon and was the largest and grandest of all the public fountains built in 18th Century Paris (see also lot 573);
