Roses, peonies, tulips and other flowers, in a glass bowl standing on a veined marble slab, the corner which is covered in a plum-colored silk drapery oil on canvas 283/4 x 231/4 in. (73 x 59 cm.) PROVENANCE Arthur M. Grenfell, Esq.; his sale, Christie's, London, 26 June 1914, lot 1, as W. van Aelst. NOTES We are grateful to Mr. Fred Meijer of the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorisches Documentatie, The Hague, for confirming the attribution to Lachtropius from photographs (private communication, 29 November 2002).
