Sir Allan Patrick Herbert (1890-1971) was an author and MP. His many novels include 'The House by the River' and 'The Singing Swan' and he wrote regularly for Punch. He was a member of parliament from 1935 to 1950 and was instrumental in the reform of the English divorce law in 1937. He received his Knighthood in 1945.
