Nicholas de Grandmaison 1892 - 1978 Canadian pastel on paper Chief Hector of the Stoney Tribe from Morley 15 1/2 x 11 1/2 inches 39.4 x 29.2 centimeters signed and on verso inscribed on a label ""for Robert B. Walls - Belle Beveridge"" Provenance:Thomas and Janet Beveridge, Calgary By descent to E. Belle Beveridge, Calgary Gift to Robert and Audrey Walls, Calgary, 1987 Private Collection, Calgary On verso is an inscription that describes the provenance of this work and how it was originally acquired by Thomas and Janet Beveridge. De Grandmaison was living in Calgary in the Queens Hotel with his family, and selling his paintings wherever he could. At the Beveridges' home, he hung this painting on the wall, and commented, "You wouldn't want to take it down, would you?" Mrs. Beveridge did not, and paid him his asking price of $40.
