Lavish edition in a very elaborately gilt gift binding. Both covers have Napoleon's gilt monogram, wide borders with stars, eagles and laurel branches; spine gilt in six compartments. With gilt-stamped Christmas gift message on front cover: "To Mr Van Alen from Miss Van Alen / December 25th 1905 / Is this formal enough?"
