NANCY NUNGURRAYI BORN CIRCA 1930 KARRILWARA 1998 91.5 by 91.5 cm Synthetic polymer paint on linen Bears artist's name, size and Papunya Tula Artists catalogue number NN981224 on the reverse Provenance: Painted at Kintore in 1998 for Papunya Tula Artists Private Collection, Alice Springs This painting is sold with an accompanying Papunya Tula Artists certificate, which reads, in part: 'This painting depicts designs associated with the rockhole site of Karrilwarra, west of the Pollock Hills in Western Australia. Two Pythons (kuniyas) travelled from the east to this site and went underground by entering the rockhole. They later resurfaced at Wiluna north of Kalgoorlie. A group of women, represented by the "U" shapes also travelled to Karrilwarra from Marrapinti. They continued travelling east passing through Kiwirrkura, Umari and Pinari'.
