Description

MYKOLA NEDILKO (UKRAINIAN 1902-1979), "Still Life with Conch Shells and Flowers," oil on canvas, 61 x 76.2 cm (24 x 30 in.), signed lower right. Mykola Nedilko was born in Yshchenkivka, Sumy Oblast, Ukraine in 1902. A painter and stage designer, he graduated from the Ukrainian State Art Institute in Kyiv in 1928 where he studied in the studios of F. Krychevsky, M. Boichuk and L. Kramarenko. He would go on to work as a set designer and painter with the State Opera and Musical Comedy Theatre in Kyiv. In 1940 Nedilko was sent by the Artists' Union to Lviv from where he left for Germany in 1944, and emigrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1948. In 1961 he moved to New York, where numerous exhibitions dedicated to his work took place.
