Notes

Ripley Hall (now Castle) near Harrogate in North Yorkshire dates from the 13υth century. It has been in the procession of the Ingilby family for just under 700 years. For much of his career Griffith was employed as an assistant to the artist Thomas Pennant (1726-1798). They are known to have been in Yorkshire during 1773 and again in 1777.
