Broadsheet 2° (626 x 487mm). French and English text. Lithographic title and 21 views, by Louis Haghe after Monson, on india paper mounted, engraved map by John Arrowsmith with routes outlined in blue. (Some spotting, heavier in 4 plates.) Publisher's red russia-backed blue ribbed cloth lettered in gilt, yellow endpapers, by Leighton and Eeles, Hancock's Patent, with their stamp (minor scuffs at extremities).

Monson delineated the French High Alps to complement the better documented Vaudois, taking as his intellectual starting-point a popular biography of the Swiss Protestant minister Felix Neff. In his introduction he gives an account of the topography, customs and manners of the region. Abbey Travel, 60.
