Miss Mary Annie Sloane A.R.E. (c.1870-1961) Portrait of a Young Lady, three quarter length, wearing a blue dress and large bonnet Inscribed with the artist's name and the title Portrait on an exhibition label verso, oil on board, 30.5cm by 24.5cm The artist was born in Leicester and studied art at Leicester Art School and at Bushey under Herkomer, as well as at the Royal College of Art under Short. She exhibited at the leading London galleries from 1889 onwards, was a member of the Leicester Society of Artists and lived at Enderby and London.
