When Oakland Museum first opened its doors in 1972, Mine Okubo was the first woman to have a solo exhibition, Mine Okubo: An American Experience. The remodeled museum, now named The Oakland Museum of California, re-opened in 2010 and again featured Mine Okubo in a solo exhibition, Mine Okubo: Citizen 13660.
