Notes

Middleton Jameson (fl.1877-1919)

Although he exhibited a number of times at both the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists, little is known about Middleton Jameson. From the present lots, it is apparent that he travelled extensively, took an interest in local customs and culture, and was a man of depth and interest. The variety in the lots (ranging from English rustic scenes to South African anthropological documentation highlight his breadth as an artist) is reflected in the range of works he exhibited at the R.A.: Cupid and Psyche (1899, no. 293) Assegai making, Masonhaland (1895, no.62) and In Versailles' gardens (1904, no. 1074).
No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium, which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
Please note Payments and Collections will be unavailable on Monday 12th July 2010 due to a major update to the Client Accounting IT system. For further details please call +44 (0) 20 7839 9060 or e-mail info@christies.com
