The narrow path of virtue and the broad path of vice. Remains of a signature in the lower centre: Micker... Oil on wood. 46 x 62,5cm. Framed.

The painting's subject refers to the Gospel according to Matthew, chapter 7, verses 13 and 14 where the road to perdition is broad in contrast to the small and narrow gate and road to heaven. Micker represents this comparison impressively in a fantastic and vast landscape featuring a Renaissance garden as well as huge portal architecture which he juxtaposes with the narrow path to heaven.
