Notes

Michael Journiac invented a radically new way of making art, melding the anatomical with the sociological. Heralded by some as one of the most important post-war artists, he dissected and projected the human condition by exploring themes such as femininity, death and the sacred. Once faced with AIDS, the subjects he concentrated on became more disturbing and related to his own suffering. After his death there was a renaissance of interest in his work, especially among younger artists. His work is presented both in private and important international institutional collections.
