Notes

De Meynier was a military engineer during the Wars of Religion, and after retiring in 1608, he wrote many works of a military and literary nature. For another work by him, see Macclesfield Science I-O, lot 1380 (on geometry). The second work is rare; there is a copy in the British Library, but it is not listed in BL STC French XVIIc.
