Mel Fowler (American, 1921-1987) "The Jade Gate", a Utah alabaster sculpture, 1986, edition 1/1, signed "Mel 86", mounted on an oval variegated black marble base bearing brass title plaque, overall h. 15-1/2", w. 22", d. 14-1/2". Exhibited: Tennessee State University, Clarksville, Tennessee, December 1986 through January 1987. Provenance: The estates of David and Eula Wintermann. Accompanied by the original bill of sale from Mel Fowler, dated February 22, 1981. This sculpture was inspired by James Clavell's novel Noble House.
