Notes

Miles Chappell (loc.cit.) recognised this as a study for a woman captive in Rosselli's fresco The Capture of Ippona, painted between 1621 and 1623 in one of the rooms of the Casino Mediceo, the residence of Cardinal Carlo de'Medici, near Piazza S. Marco, Florence. As was common studio practice, a garzone posed for the female figure. The fresco shows Turkish captives led before Ferdinando de'Medici after the Tuscan victory at Ippona in September 1607.
