Edo Period, early 19th century
A shunga makimono mounted with twelve scenes of a couple making love, in ink and colour on silk, signed Oshin with seal on the screen in one of the scenes; with wood storage box. 27cm x 404.5cm (10 5/8in x 159¼in). (2).

Born as a grandson of Maruyama Okyo (1733-1795) and son of Kinoshita Oju (1777-1815), Oshin became the pupil of his aunt Maruyama Ozui (1766-1829) and was later adopted by her. When he became head of the third generation of the Maruyama School, he specialized in landscapes and kachoga depicted in a slightly realistic manner.
