Stig's images from the series Sisters are portraits of young women from the University of Kuwait who deliberately choose to wear veils. A carefully-conceived project, Stig developed correspondence with several of her subjects prior to visiting the University. The resulting intimate portraits show the photographer's interest in considering constructions of identity and individuality in photographs of veiled women. While all subjects willingly agreed to being photographed, Stig discovered a precarious balance between depictions of self and personal commitments to modesty.

Stig studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, The Hague and the University of Amsterdam. Her works have been exhibited internationally in several solo and group shows, including Dutch Dare and have been published in the anthology Dutch Eyes. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards, including a 2007 grant to work in Tokyo from The Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture. Stig lives and works in Amsterdam.
