Foaled in 1934. By Man O'War, out of Brushup. War Admiral won the Triple Crown in 1937 and was one of the finest runners by Man O'War. He was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 1958.

Although he had an outstanding career, winning 9 out of 11 starts, he lost one of the most touted races: a match race against the top handicapper, Seabiscuit, in the Pimlico Special.

A smaller version of the present painting is in the National Museum of Racing, Saratoga Springs, NY.
