Item Overview

Description

MARTEN MELSEN (1872-1947) COQ S. MER. 1923.
39 1/2x25 inches. Henry Melsen.
Condition A: sharp vertical and horizontal folds.
Situated on the Zoute, Belgium's northern coast along the English Channel, De Haan is the name of both the municipality and a town. The town was constructed in 1889 by Royal Belgian decree. The charming hamlet was composed of Art Nouveau-style villas constructed and layed out by two architects. Aside from its inherent beauty, the town may be most famous as a six month stopover by Albert Einstein as he was fleeing Nazi Germany. Coq sur Mer is the French name.
