Notes

Executed in silk and acrylic on bamboo, Maijang by Marta Marcé was created during the artists residency in Kunming, China, its medium paying direct homage to Eastern influences. In her artistic practice the artist employs basic geometric shapes, such as the concentric circles of Maijang, to present works that embody a universal understanding of form and structure. The choice of colour palette is another important facet of Marcé's working method. Positioning her shades in dense rings, the artist emphasises their contrasts and enhances their optical impact. Some colours recede while others stand out. Visually striking, there is also a sense of playfulness about this work. As the artist has explained on her website, 'I seek to create a space for experimentation and play within this discipline. I want the paintings to have an immense energy, at once vibrant and full of humanity'. (M. Marcé, quoted on http://martamarce.com/texts/
statement/)
