Marie-Suzanne Giroust fut l'élève de Joseph-Marie Vien et rencontra son mari, le peintre suédois Alexandre Roslin dans l'atelier de son maître. Elle fut une des rares femmes, avec Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun, Anne Vallayer-Coster et Adélaïde Labille-Guiard, à être admise comme membre de l'Académie de Peinture et de Sculpture, où elle fut reçue le 4 septembre 1771. Elle présenta au Salon de 1771, sous le numéro 150, le portrait du sculpteur Pigalle comme morceau de réception. Plusieurs autres portraits furent présentés cette même année et connurent un vif succès. Le Mercure de France souligne à cette occasion la correction du dessin, le bon ton de la couleur?et la touche savante qui permettaient à l'artiste de soutenir la comparaison avec les meilleurs portraitistes. Pour Diderot, les pastels étaient d'une touche fine et d'un pinceau digne de La Tour. Le musée du Louvre conserve d'elle le portrait du peintre Dumont le Romain. Marie-Joseph Peyre naquit à Paris en 1730 et mourut à Choisy-le-Roi en 1785. Il obtint à l'âge de vingt-et-un ans le grand prix d'architecture puis après un Grand tour en Italie, il revint en France où il devint directeur des Bâtiments du Roi et membre de l'Académie d'architecture, où il fut reçu en 1767. Il fut l'architecte avec de Wailly du théâtre de l'Odéon, anciennement appelé " théâtre français ".

CONDITIONS OF SALE
The highest and final bidder is deemed to be the purchaser, and must provide his / her name and address. No lot will be transferred to the purchaser before it has been paid for in full. In the event of payment by cheque or bank transfer, property may be withheld until payment has been cleared. Any storage costs that may result are to be paid by the purchaser.
