Note: Encouraged by her husband, the French Quarter artist Jean Demeaux, Marie Demeaux enrolled in art school in 1946. With a background as a designer, she created costumes for several Mardi Gras krewes in New Orleans and Mobile. An active member of the local art community, she was a member of the Gallery Circle Theatre and the Art Association Guild of New Orleans. In these two paintings, she captures a corner store in New Orleans and a houseboat in the bayou.
