The Juyongguan Pass is one of many passes of The Great Wall and lies 50km northwest of Beijing. The pass was constructed in 1345 with a triple pagoda, but this was destroyed by an earthquake during the Ming period leaving only the terrace on which the pagoda sat. The gateway depicted is decorated with carvings of the Buddha, four celestial kings and the text of the Buddhist Sutra in Chinese, Tibetan and Sanskrit.
