Signed, dated, and inscribed "Maria Brooks. 1888/ New York" u.r., with a label from
Thomas A. Wilmurt, New York, on the frame reverse.
Oil on artist board, 11 5/8 x 7 3/8 in. (29.5 x 18.7 cm), in a Thomas Wilmurt frame (under glass).
Condition: Craquelure, subtle varnish inconsistencies.

N.B. Thomas A. Wilmurt, established in 1848, was a prominent New York frame maker that operated on East 13th Street from 1866 to 1894. (1) He became one of John Singer Sargent's trusted picture framers, and also counted Tiffany & Company amongst his clients (2).

The craquelure is fine and stable. Partial label reads, "MIRRORS A [ND PICTURE FRAMES] / THOS. A. [WILMURT] 54 E. 13th [ST. NEW YORK]" on the reverse.
