MARGARET MORRIS (1891-1980) No.3 Rhapsody 1919 mixed media 21cm x 12cm Provenance: Cyril Gerber Fine Art label verso, Margaret Morris Centenary Exhibition 1991 Note: The daughter of the artist William Bright Morris, Margaret Morris studied ballet and became a successful dancer-actor-manager. In 1913 in Paris she met J.D. Fergusson and they later married. Between the south of France and London, the couple met Peploe, Epstein, Lewis and Mackintosh. Settling in Glasgow in 1939 they played a major part in forming the New Art Club and the New Scottish Group of independent painters. A talented painter herself, Morris died in 1980 aged 89. Private Scottish Collection. Copy of purchase receipt accompanies this lot.
