Notes

At the time of the 2000 sale, Domenico Sedini, based on photographs, confirmed the attribution of the present picture to d'Oggiono. He noted that the theme of the Infant Christ and the Baptist is found in a number of other paintings by the artist, such as the Thuélin Madonna, sold New York, Sotheby's, January 28, 2000, lot 16). Stylistically, he relates it closely to The Maleo Polyptych (Mussée du Louvre, Paris) and dates the present work to the artist's mature period, not earlier than 1515.
