Notes

Marc Bauer works with drawings, videos and sculptures. His work examines matters of memory and remembrance as well as relationships based on power and domination. The subjects of his drawings are often related to his own life, either by means of personal childhood memories or of family accounts. His drawings are looking very poetic and subtle, but the concerning content is confronting. Most of his work deals with sex. 'Sex involves a lot of different aspects, as soon as there is sex there is also power balance, games, moral codes, intimacy... It's a big theme to hold together a lot of different issues. The viewer may find a meaning, or at least an attempt at meaning through the images, there he has to reconstruct the whole story.'

Marc Bauer was resident artist at the Rijksakademie in 2002-2003.
