Description

MARAK Julius Edvard (21. 3. 1832 Litomysl - 8. 10. 1899 Prague) Forest interior Oil on wood, 30 x 23 cm, framed, undated [second half of the 1870s], unsigned, seal at the back, expertise by Doc. PhDr. Tomas Vlcek and a laboratory report by Dorothea Pechova. Czech neo-Romantic landscape painter, pupil of M. Haushofer at the Prague Academy of Arts and C. Rottmann and E. Schleich in Munich. He lived and worked in Vienna, towards the end of his life he returned to Prague and became head of the studio of landscape painting at the Prague Academy. Among his pupils were e.g. A. Slavicek, A. Kalvoda or F. Kavan who represent a new generation of Symbolist or Impressionist painting. See T 2/98, 2/773, TD 126, 223, TB 24/51, B 7/156, NECVU 1/486.
