Description

Malton (Thomas). MaltonÕs Oxford, 4 original parts, pub. T. Bensley for T. Malton, March 1802-January 1804, 24 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates, tissue guard to each, some light marginal spots, original wrappers, paper labels to upper wrappers, a few stains, contained in modern cloth, folio. Thomas Malton Òthe youngerÓ (1748-1804) had published A Picturesque Tour Through the Cities of London and Westminster in 1792, using the new medium of aquatint. He was engaged on Views of Oxford, completing the fourth part, when he died in 1804, leaving six etched plates intended for a fifth part, these along with the original 24 aquatints above appearing together in the 1810 reprint.
