Robert Gerard, 4th Baron Gerard (1918–1992), wearing green chemise with white collar and green buttons, his golden hair parted.
Signed on the obverse Mabel Hankey, silver frame, engraved on the obverse Robert Frederick William Alwyn Gerard/ 1924, the reverse glazed to reveal a lock of hair, set in rectangular brown leather travelling case.

The present lot was painted when the sitter was six years of age. He was the son of Frederick John Gerard, 3rd Baron Gerard MC, JP, DL (1883-1953) and Mary Frances Emma Gosselin (d.1954), daughter of Sir Martin Le Marchant Hadsley Gosselin and the Hon. Katherine Frances Gerard. Robert was educated at Ampleforth College in Yorkshire and served with the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. He had one younger sister and three elder sisters, the middle of whom is portrayed in the following lot.
