Description

Ink and colour on paper. China, Qing Dynasty. WIDTH 53 CM
Dated and signed: Painted in of the year bingzi (1696) under the northern window of the Yungen Studio. Xixia Ma Yuanyu. (丙子春日寫于雲根軒之北窗下. 栖霞馬元馭.) Seals: 1. Nansha zhi yin 南沙之印 (negative); 2. Fu Xi 扶羲 (positive).
A fan with masterly painted poppies (Chinese:Yingsu) showing one red and one violet bloom with tastefully arranged petals done in a vivid composition of light blue and yellow-greenish colours. One arched stalk with capsule. Calligraphy to the right - "Written on a rainy spring day in a Yungen pavilion (雨子春日寫于雲根軒 ...). Mounted, good condition.
