Inscribed "Morgari/ B. Turin 1857" on the stretcher in a later hand.

Retouch is minimal. There is a T-shaped area (shape oriented sideways) located in the tub about 9 inches up from the bottom edge, measuring 2 inches on the vertical and 3 inches on the horizontal, which may be a restored tear. There are minor strokes of retouch to the mother's left sleeve and to her hair, also along the right side of the skirt of the child standing on the right, in the hair of the child seated in foreground, and a few brush strokes to the background in u.r. quadrant.
