Louise van Dockum (1809-1878), in lilac-coloured dress with ruched bodice and puff sleeves, white underslip, gold necklace and drop earrings, her hair elaborately dressed in ringlets
on ivory
oval, 2¼ in. (57 mm.) high, gold frame, the reverse engraved 'Louise v. Dockum födt Bauditz. födt 23/9. 1809. död 30/11. 1878 Malet af Fr. Camradt. i Juni 1833.'

Notes

FROM THE COLLECTION OF TORBEN HOLCK COLDING (1918-1998)

Louise Sophie Caroline Bauditz married Carl Edvard van Dockum (1804-1893), the future Admiral, on 11 April 1840 at Garnisonskirken in Copenhagen.
Similar miniatures are illustrated in E. Lemberger, Die Bildnis-Miniatur in Skandinavien, Berlin, 1912, II, pl. 84, and in J. Nimmergut/A.-M. Wager, Miniaturen. Dosen, Munich, 1982, p. 219, no. F50.
The inside of the back of the frame is scratched 'W. A. Fleinert Copenhague Mai 1918', and the reverse bears the goldsmith's mark with initials WAF.
