Notes

François Reizell was an ébéniste of German extraction who first established his workshop on the faubourg Saint-Antoine. In 1770 he left the neighborhood which housed so many of his colleagues and moved to the rue des Saints-Pères. Reizell's principal client was the prince de Condé for whom he supplied pieces at the Palais Bourbon and for the country houses at Chantilly and Villegenis. A similarly decorated, smaller, commode by Reizell is illustrated, Comte F. de Salverte, Les Ebénistes du XVIII Siècle, 1923, p. 265, pl. LIII.
