Notes

Adam Dollard des Ormeaux (c. 1636-1660) emigrated from France to Canada in 1657. He was appointed the Commander of the garrison at Ville-Marie (Montreal). In the Spring of 1660, he led a group of sixteen young men up the Ottawa River to attack the Iroquois. They were outnumbered and all killed; they became Quebec heroes. Until recently, Quebecers celebrated Dollard Day on the same day as Queen Victoria Day is celebrated in the rest of Canada.
