Description

LOUIS-PHILIPPE CREPIN (FRENCH 1772-1851). ENGAGEMENT OF THE BAYONNAISE AND AMBUSCADE, CIRCA 1798-1801. Depicting the attack and boarding of the 42-gun British privateer Ambuscade by the crew of the 20-gun French Corvette Bayonnaise during the Napoleonic Wars. This is a study for a large painting in the collection of the Musee de la Marine in Paris, which displays a full view of both ships in battle. Charcoal, pastel and watercolor on paper, 28 3/4 x 21 3/4 inches.Literature: Jack Tar, p. 207.
