Description

LITHO, HANDCOLORED - 'Jamaica Pond, West Roxbury, Mass.' by John Henry Bufford (MA, 1810-1870), copyrighted 1859, depicting the new craze of ice skating as introduced to New England on this pond at this time; Bufford was Winslow Homer's first instructor and employer, Homer sold images very similar to this the same year to Leslie's and Ballous Pictorial magazines, this print is in the original molded lemon gold frame, under old glass, SS: 19 1/4" x 24 1/2", OS: 21 1/4" x 26 1/2", trimmed, toned stained at bottom, 3" horizontal tear at center, short tears and chips along top edge. Still quite nice and scarce.
