Notes

According to "the Convention for the Extension of Hong Kong Territory", signed by Qing Dynasty and the United Kingdom, the British government was eligible to take over the New Territories in April 1899. However, villagers of Kat Hing Wai in Kam Tin were determined to fight against the British troops so as to defend their walled-village. However, the British successfully took over Kat Hing Wai and the iron gate of the village, as depicted by Li Tao, was brought back to Britain as war booty. After years of negotiation between the British government and Tang's family who are natives of Kam Tin, the gate was finally returned in 1924.
